First serve for the first meeting between the two teams this season is set for 7 p.m. with the contest broadcast on The Valley on ESPN3.The Bulldogs will aim to recapture some of the Monday magic they enjoyed earlier this season in a 3-0 sweep of Illinois State on Monday, Oct. 3. Last season, the Bulldogs swept the Sycamores and have won 10 of the last 11 matches against Indiana State in the Knapp Center.Monday’s match is also a near must win for both teams to keep their hopes alive for an MVC Tournament berth. Drake is currently 4-8 in the MVC while Indiana State is 3-8. Both are gunning for the sixth and final spot in the field currently held by Loyola at 7-6. Drake has won two of its last four home matches while Indiana State has claimed two of its last three road games.The Sycamores are led by Kynedi Nalls’ 3.42 kills per set while in the middle, Damadj Johnson averages 1.08 blocks per set and is hitting a team-best .297.The Bulldogs are coming off a pair of 3-0 losses at the top two teams in the Valley, Wichita State and Missouri State, over the weekend.Michelle Thommi (Omaha, Neb.) recorded 33 digs over those two games to move into third all-time in Drake history with 1,469 career digs, past Brandy Ossian’s 1,455 career digs from 1993-96. Thommi’s 493 digs this season rank as the seventh most in a season in Drake history.Offensively, junior Odessa Cody has recorded 62 kills while hitting .231 during the last six games. Prior to that six-game span, she had previously recorded just 100 career kills while hitting .115.Following Monday’s game, the Bulldogs will return to the road to face in-state rival UNI on Saturday, Nov. 5, in Cedar Falls, Iowa.Print Friendly Versionlast_img read more
